Welcome on my Homepage. Here you will find some information about me, my hobbies and things
I like.
I was born in Berchtesgaden, a small village in southern Bavaria and I spent my childhood in Siegsdorf. I attended the Chiemgau Gymnasium in
Traunstein and after finishing school I moved to Munich. I started studying physics at the Ludwig Maximilians University. Unfortunately I became seriously ill and had to stop
studying. After recovering I did an internship at the company Heidenhain. I did some experiments with nanostructures and wrote a program for the analyzation of measurements. After that I began studying physics at the Technical Univeristy of Munich .
In August 2000 I went to University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign to study there. I took courses in Mathematical Methods of Physics, Quantum Field Theory, Particle Physics, Complex Systems and I also took a wonderful and interesting course in History of Photography. We did really nice trips to Lake Michigan, Chicago, New York and Florida and I met many fantastic people there. July to October 2001 I did an internship at Siemens where I programmed a database manager to connect one of their products, the i250, to SQL databases. I really enjoyed to work there. October 2001 I started my diploma thesis at the Technical University of Munich. After finishing my diploma thesis I decided to do a PhD in theoretical nuclear physics. I studied the phase transitions from hadronic matter to the so-called Quark-Gluon plasma using a field theoretical model. For the first time we could describe lattice qcd thermodynamical quantities within a model that contains both aspects of confinement and chiral symmetry restoration. I finished my PhD in January 2006.
I like doing sports. I go running ans swimming regularly and I also like to do mountain hikes. I also like scuba diving, but unfortunately I did not have the time and money to do it, lately.
I also like to draw. I started drawing when I was in highschool. Back then I did some drawings of characters from the Dragonlance roleplaying campaign. After finishing my PhD I decided to draw again and I hope I will keep practicing. You can find some of my drawings here. I enjoy travelling. When I studied in the US I travelled to Lake Michigan, New York and Florida and I also went to the West Coast with my dad some years ago. After I returned from the US I did a trip on a sailboat starting at the wonderfull city of Bremen going to Southampton in Great Britain. I really enjoyed the trip, even though I got pretty sea sick in the beginning. After I read Hanna's Daughters I really got excited to travell to the scandinavian countries and I also hope to see Africa sometime. |
